DEERFIELD, Ill. - Trinity International Volleyball and head coach
Luke Ward announced the addition of two junior college transfers, as Samantha Brenneman (Rossville, Ind./Ancilla CC) and Katelyn Sommers (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Harper CC) sign with TIU for the upcoming 2017 season.
Brenneman comes to Trinity after two seasons at Ancilla College in Plymouth, Ind., where she was named to the All-Michigan Community College Athletic Association Team. During her sophomore season in 2016, Brenneman helped lead the Chargers to their highest winning percentage in school history and a program-best 11-5 record in MCCAA play. "I'm incredibly excited to add Sam to our 2017 recruiting class," said Ward. "She brings seasoned leadership, she's a team-first type of player, and she'll be able to help continue to grow our program. I also like that she's multi-faceted and can hit from multiple spots on the floor."
"I really wanted to go to a Christian school, and I felt at home at TIU," said Brenneman. "I think Trinity will give me a good opportunity to grow spiritually while continuing my academic and athletic career. Everyone on the team seemed so nice and I really hope I can contribute to the success of the program."
Sommers also signs with the Trojans after finishing her junior college career, in which she was part of the Harper College squad that claimed the 2016 NJCAA Division III National Championship. The Buffalo Grove native averaged 9.6 assists per set for the Hawks, and was named to the NJCAA Division III All-Tournament Team as a sophomore. Sommers set the all-time Harper College record with 2,800 assists in her two seasons.
"I really believe I made the best decision I could," said Sommers on joining the Trojans next season. "I cannot wait to start playing volleyball at this amazing school. Coach Ward is really positive and honest and the players I met have been so nice."
Brenneman and Sommers are the latest addition to the signing class for 2017, joining
Madeline and Jacqueline Decker, and Masey Schmedes.
