Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. - In their second matchup with the Lakers this season, the Trojan Volleyball team was unable to pick up a victory, suffering a 3-0 loss to Roosevelt University on Tuesday evening.
After defeating the Lakers earlier in the season, the Trojans were in search of the season sweep of Roosevelt but were unable to find their groove in their first match of the week. The opening set saw back and forth action between the two teams with the Lakers holding an early 16-11. The Trojans quickly battled back, rattling off five consecutive points to even things out at 16. The Lakers though would capitalize on back-to-back Trojan attack errors to pull away late, and eventually take the opening set 25-20.
The second set saw much of the same, with neither team grabbing a hold of the game until late in the set. Sophomore Ashlyn Spay did her best to give the Trojans life, registering four kills, including brigning the Trojans within three points midway through the set. Roosevelt eventually pulled away after two straight kills from Chelsey Crippin sealed the second set victory 25-20.Â
In the third and final set of the night the Trojans kept pace with the Lakers as neither team had more than a two point lead the majority of the set. Roosevelt however found a way to pull it out late, winning six of the final nine points to win the third and final set.
The Trojans return home for the first time in two weeks on Thursday, as the St. Xavier Cougars come to Deerfield for a CCAC matchup at 7 pm.
