Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill. - In their first match of the week the TIU Volleyball team saw their come back efforts fall short as the Trojans fell in four sets to the St. Ambrose Bee's 3-1 (17-25,22-25,25-22,13-25) on Tuesday evening.
The opening set saw a strong performance from the visiting Bee's as St. Ambrose quickly jumped out to a 15-6 lead and they would not look back from there. The Trojans did well to get back into the set late thanks to two kills from
Sam Brenneman but the early lead from St. Ambrose was too much to overcome as SAU took the opening set 25-17.
In the second set of the match the Trojans kept pace with the high flying offense of SAU, trading points with the Bee's including multiple kills from Brenneman,
Madeline Decker, and
Amber Dieringer. With TIU up 20-17 late in the second set, SAU rattled off six of the final seven points to win the set 25-22 and take a 2-0 lead.
The Trojans would not go down without a fight as TIU came roaring back in the third set, overcoming a 17-12 deficit to win the game. Back to back service aces from
Hannah Matthew started the comeback, and strong play from
Katelyn Sommers, Decker, and Brenneman sealed the set victory for TIU.
After gaining the moment right back after winning the third set, SAU once again grabbed the early lead and would not look back. Cruising to a fourth set, and match sealing victroy 25-13.
The Trojans will look to bounce back this weekend as they head to Palos Heights to compete in the final CCAC Crossover of the season, on Friday and Saturday evening.
