Box Score DAVENPORT, Iowa - In their first of three matches on the weekend the TIU Volleyball team wasted no time getting in the win column, earning a straight set sweep victory over Calumet 25-18,25-8,25-15.
The Trojans got off to a quick start in the opening set, jumping out to a 5-0 lead and never looking back from there. Freshman
Deb Kovalczuk picked up where she left off on Wednesday, leading the Trojans with six of her eleven kills in the opening set. The Wave cut the Trojan lead to five, but kills from
Ashlyn Spay, and
Sam Brenneman closed out the opening frame 28-18.
In the second game of the match, Trinity International put on their best performance of the evening, dominating the opposition and only giving up eight points defensively. With a 16-7 lead late in the set the Trojans rattled off nine of the final ten points to close things out 25-8.
Hannah Matthew put the final touches on the set with two of her six service aces.
In the final set, the Trojans continued their success offensively, registering 14 of their 36 kills in the match. Brenneman and Kovalczuk each tallied three kills in the set to lead TIU to a 25-15 win.
A double-header awaits the Trojans tomorrow as TIU takes on St. Francis and Indiana South Bend at 10 am. and 2 pm.
