Box Score 2 DAVENPORT, Iowa - In the final day of the CCAC Crossover Tournament, the TIU Volleyball Team suffered a pair of defeats, falling 3-2 (23-25,26-24,26-28,25-23,9-15) to St. Francis, and 3-1 to Indiana University-South Bend (25-18,26-28,20-25,15-25) on Saturday afternoon.
It was a well fought battle in the Trojans opening match of the afternoon forcing a deciding fifth set against St. Francis after being down the majority of the match. With their backs against the wall and down 23-17 in the fourth set, the Lady Trojans rattled off eight consecutive points to extend the match to five sets. The Saints bounced back to take the fifth and final set 9-15, putting an end to the Trojan comeback attempt.
Mickayla Staal had another standout performance for TIU, matching her season high 18 kills in the match, while
Madeline Decker added 10 of her own.
In the Trojans second match of the day, TIU got off to a quick start, winning the opening set 25-18. Sophomore
Kayla Jacks had four of her seven total kills in the opening set to lead Trinity International.
The Titans bounced right back in the second set, and never looked back from there. With a 28-26 second set win, and the clear turning point in the match the Titans used the momentum from the second set to win the third and fourth sets and close out the match.
The Trojans will head to Chicago on Tuesday for a CCAC North Division battle with Roosevelt University at 7 pm.
