Quick Notes

 • Trinity International look to get back into the CCAC Tournament hunt this weekend, with a three-game series with the St. Xavier Cougars. The Trojans are scheduled to open the set on Friday on the road, then return to Deerfield for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
 • The Trojans are currently on a four-game slide, in which they have allowed 11 or more runs in each game.
 • With 13 conference games remaining, Trinity sits 11th in the CCAC standings, three games back of the final spot in the CCAC Tournament.
 • With their 5-5 mark in Florida, Trinity posted its best record during the traditional Spring Break trip since 2010, when the Trojans finished 5-4 while competing in California and Arizona.
 • Freshman pitcher Chris Isaac ranks 5th in the CCAC with an ERA of 2.82 through 54.1 innings pitched. Isaac has posted a 4-5 record with six complete games, including his most recent start, a win at Roosevelt on Apr. 8.
 • Isaac also leads the team with 39 strikeouts, and a .242 batting average allowed.
• Senior third baseman Adam Gomski is hitting .383 to lead the Trojan offense, and was tied for 3rd in the CCAC entering play on Tuesday. Gomski had a career-long nine-game hitting streak snapped at Robert Morris on Tuesday, the longest hit streak for any Trinity player this season.
 • Freshman center fielder Nick Gehrt has hit .363 in his first year as a Trojan, with 13 walks and a .453 on-base percentage, ranking 2nd on the team in all categories. Gehrt ranks 7th in the CCAC in on-base percentage, and reached base safely in 17 straight games, from Mar. 2 - Apr. 1.
 • Sophomore first baseman Michael Balistreri is hitting .341 on the year, and leads the Trojans with a .466 slugging percentage. The Waukesha, Wisc. native also leads the team with two home runs this year.
 • Senior infielder Justin VanderNaald has a .315 average, and leads the team with 7 doubles and 21 RBI. VanderNaald is the active career leader in home runs after hitting his 3rd as a Trojan in the first game at Trinity Christian on Apr. 4.
• Freshman Ethan Jarvis is one of two Trojans to have played in every game this season, including ten appearances on the mound. Jarvis has started 27 games this year, at a team-high five different positions; Jarvis has seen time at first base, both corner outfield spots, and designated hitter, in addition to his pitching duties. The Kelowna, British Columbia native is hitting .262 in his first campaign as a Trojan, while posting a 2-2 record and 8.16 ERA through 32 innings on the mound.
• Sophomore pitcher Jordan Alvernaz has posted a 2-2 record with a 6.12 ERA through four starts and ten overall apperances this spring. Alvernaz pitched in relief during game two against the Trolls on Tuesday without allowing a hit in one inning of work.
 • Senior shortstop Jeff Lindberg has started 29 of 30 games this year, and leads the team with 25 runs scored hitting primarily out of the no. 2 spot in the lineup. Lindberg holds the team's longest active hitting streak, at four games, going 5-for-14 (.357) in that time.
 • Senior catcher Joel Stephenson is hitting .327 in 23 appearances this season with two doubles and two triples. Stephenson drove in a combined five RBI in the doubleheader at Roosevelt on Apr. 8, going 3-for-7 with a triple in each game.
 • Freshman Matt Latimer matched his early career high with two RBI in game one at Olivet Nazarene on Wednesday, going 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base. Latimer is hitting .256 on the season with 7 RBI and 13 runs scored.
 • The Trojans are hitting .272 as a team this season, the 9th-highest average in the CCAC. St. Xavier rank 11th in the league, hitting .250.
 • Trinity has posted a team ERA of 5.87, good for 8th in the CCAC. St. Xavier rank 4th in the conference, with a 4.69 ERA.
 • Last season, Trinity finished with a 23-24-1 record, just shy of the first winning season for the program since 2010.


 

About St. Xavier

 • The Cougars lead the series over the Trojans 21-6, since the 2006 season.
 • St. Xavier took two of three in last year's series, on Mar. 18-19. Trinity's win in the middle game of the series was the first for TIU since 2011.
 • The Cougars enter play this weekend riding a four-game win streak, including a doubleheader sweep over Calumet St. Joseph on Wednesday, and an 8-1 win over NCAA Division II Lewis (Ill.) on Tuesday.
 • Ben Zordani leads the team with a .352 batting average, while Matt Monahan is tied for 6th in the CCAC with 41 hits on the year.
 • Drew Dominik holds the team's lowest ERA, at 1.26 through 28.2 innings pitched. Tyler Hebel is the Cougars' top qualifying pitcher, and ranks 2nd in the CCAC with a 2.40 ERA and .218 batting average allowed. 

 

Trojans in the Polls

 • TIU Baseball was picked to finish 11th out of 12 in the CCAC preseason poll, released on Nov. 7
 • The Trojans are have yet to earn a spot in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, dating back to the poll's debut in 2000.


 

TIU Baseball History

• Since 2006, Trinity Baseball has an all-time record of 205-309-1 (.399). The Trojans' last winning season came in 2010, when TIU finished 30-23.
• Trinity's last appearance in the CCAC Tournament came in 2011, when the Trojans went 3-2, reaching the CCAC final before falling to St. Francis.
• The Trojans have made four appearances at the NCCAA National Championship, for the first time in 1998, and three straight years from 2005-2007. Trinity holds a 3-8 all-time record at the NCCAA National Championship.

 

Up Next

 • Another busy week for Trinity starts Monday afternoon, as the Trojans kick off seven games in six days with a trip to Maranatha Baptist (Wisc.) First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00 p.m.
 • The Trojans then return home to continue CCAC play, with a Tuesday doubleheader with St. Francis beginning at 1:30 p.m.
 • Next weekend, Trinity will take on the Judson Eagles in a three-game set beginning at home on Friday afternoon, followed by a Saturday doubleheader in Elgin.
