Box Score 1 DEERFIELD, ILL - The Trinity Women's Volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday, in the opening day of the TIU Labor Day Classic. The hosts dropped the first match of the tourney in four games to Lake Superior State, but rebounded to defeat Moody Bible in straight sets in the nightcap of Friday's action.
Lake Superior State set the tone early in the day, taking the first set 25-14 off the Trojans. However,
Luke Ward's Trinity squad would bounce back to win the second set 25-19 and even the match. The Trojans had some opportunities slip by in a close third set, eventually falling 25-22. The Lakers capitalized on the momentum swing by capturing the fourth and final set 25-9 to earn the victory. Â
Freshman
Madeline Decker led the Trojans with eight kills and 13 digs, while junior
Katelyn Sommers and Sophomore
Kayla Jacks combined for 17 assists. Amanda Reid posted 15 kills and eight service aces for Lake Superior State. Trinity fell to 2-5 with the loss, while the NCAA Division II Lakers were playing in their opening match of the season.
The Trojans responded with a solid effort in their second contest of the day, jumping on the visiting Archers from the beginning.

Amber Dieringer and Decker led the way for Trinity, racking up seven kills each to lead the team. The hosts also received strong performances from both Sommers and Penina Sao. Sommers added 13 assists in the second match, while Sao racked up 10 digs to lead all players.
TIU Volleyball, now 3-5 this season, goes for their fourth win of the year on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Van Dixhorn Arena, as the Trojans welcome back Fisk University for the Trojans first of two matches on the day.
