Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill. - After finding themselves down two sets the TIU Volleyball team battled back to take set three but the comeback came up short, as Trinity International dropped their first conference match of the season to Judson University Tuesday evening.
It was all Eagles in the early going, as Judson quickly jumped out to a 9-2 lead and did not look back from there. The Eagles would take advantage of seven Trojan errors to earn a first set victory 25-19.
From that point on the rest of the match was back and forth with both teams keeping pace with each other. TIUÂ held a commanding 21-15 lead towards the end of the set, but Judson battled right back to tie the match. Both teams had their opportunities to capitalize but it was the Eagles who closed out the set after tacking on two straight points with the set tied 23-23. Katie Valeria scored the final kill of the set to give the eagles a commanding 2-0 lead.
The Trojans would not go down without a fight though, coming back to take the third set 25-23, getting themselves right back into the match.Trinity International took advantage of three straight attack errors completing the third set comeback and pulling themselves closer to getting even at two sets a piece.
The fourth set saw much of the same, with neither team pulling away from each other but it was the Eagles who came out on top 25-23.Â
Madeline Decker and
Ashlyn Spay were standouts offensively yet again for TIU posting eight and six kills each, respectively.
Penina Sao added 20 digs to lead the Trojans on the defensive side.
With their first loss in conference the Trojans see their eight-match win streak come to an end, the longest in program history.
Trinity International heads to Iowa on Thursday for another CCAC matchup when they take on St. Ambrose University in their final match of the week.
