Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill. - The Trinity International (10-8, 2-2 CCAC) Volleyball team suffered a three-set defeat on Tuesday evening, losing 3-0 (18-25,25-27,19-25) to Clarke University (19-3) at the Van Dixhorn Arena.
It was a well fought battle by either side, but the Pride found a way to come out on top in all three closely played sets.
In the opening game the two teams battled back and forth, with neither side taking more than a four point lead midway through. With the help of seven Trojan errors in the set the Pride went on a 5-0 run to take the lead 21-14, and wouldn't look back from there taking th opening set 25-18.
The second set saw the Trojans battle right back and come with a mere few points of evening the match at a set a piece. With the score at 22-16 in favor of the Pride the Trojans rattled seven consecutive points to come within a point of Clarke. The Trojans were able to save set point twice down the stretch thanks to kills from
Katelyn Sommers and
Mickayla Staal, but the Pride eventually took the set 27-25.
The third set saw the Pride take a commanding 6-1 lead early in the game and Clarke would not look back from there winning the third and final game 25-19.Â
Defensively the Trojans were lead by
Ashlyn Spay and
Penina Sao, each posting double-digit kills, totaling 16 and 13 kills each.
