Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill. - With their fourth consecutive win the TIU Volleyball team now improves to 6-5 on the season, after sweeping the Roosevelt Lakers (25-23, 25-19, 25-23) to open CCAC Conference play on Tuesday night.
Freshman
Madeline Decker continues to lead the Trojans (6-5, 1-0 CCAC) as she finished with yet another double-double, racking up 12 kills along with 10 digs. Sophomore
Ashlyn Spay also added 8 kills of her own to go with a game high 11 digs.
The Lakers quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead to open the first set, but Trinity International would take advantage of multiple Roosevelt errors, along with kills from Decker and
Mickayla Staal to tie the game 6-6. From that point on neither team would lead by more than two points until the closing moments of the set. The Trojans found themselves down 23-22, but the trio of Staal, Spay, and
Kayla Jacks combined to rattle off three consecutive kills to help seal the opening set 25-23.
With back and forth action in the second set, the Trojans yet again found themselves tied at six with neither team leading by more than a point early in the game. That would quickly come to an end when Trinity International put up 10 straight points, including aces from Penina Sao and three kills from Decker. From that point on the Trojans would cruise to a 25-19 second set victory.
The third set saw much of the same, with both teams keeping pace but the Trojans were able to close out the third and final set 25-23 sweeping the Lakers and earning their fourth win in a row.
Trinity International goes for consecutive win number five this Thursday when they travel to Chicago to take on the Cougars of St. Xavier University.
