VERO BEACH, Fla. - In their opening series of the 2018 spring season the TIU Baseball team suffered a four game sweep to the Apprentice School to open the Dodgertown Invitational
Game 1:
In the opening game of the four game set the Trojans struggled to get things going offensively all afternoon long. After a slow start from TIU the Builders used a strong 2nd and 4th inning to build a commanding 11-0 lead. A pair of doubles in the 2nd and a pair of homers in the 4th put the Trojans in a hole they could not climb out of.
Joel Stephenson and
Michael Luker tried to bring the Trojans back late in the game, each driving in a run but the come back would fall short as TIU suffered an 11-3 defeat in the first of two on Thursday.
Game 2:
A five run 7th inning from the Builders was all The Apprentice School needed as the Trojans suffered their second consecutive defeat on Thursday, falling to TAS 7-0.
The Trojans would only muster 4 hits in the loss, with
Zach Kentner,
Sam Willis,
Brendan Lacey, and Mike Balistreri each finding the hit column in the second game of the DH.
Game 3:
Another strong offensive performance from the Apprentice School once again put the Trojans in an early hole, as the Builders scored 8 runs inside the first 5 innings to hand the Trojans the 8-0 loss in the first game of Friday's DH.
Matt Latimer was the top performer in the first game on Friday, going 2-2 at the dish while
Matt Pierson went 1-3 with a double.
Game 4:
In their best offensive performance of the series, The Trojans saw their late rally fall just short, suffering an 8-5 loss in the final game of the series against the Builders.
Apprentice School once again showed their quick strike offensive, jumping out to a 4-0 and putting the Trojans behind early.
Luker would drive in the Trojans first run of the game making it 4-1, but the Builders tacked on two more in the 4th and 5th to make it 6-1. The Trojans began to rally from that point on, as Balistreri would notch a pair of hits and three RBI's in the final 2 inning to make it a 7-5 game.
The Builders would put a stop to the late rallying, adding a run in the 7th to make it 8-5, and sweep the opening series.
The Trojans will look to bounce back for their first win of the season tomorrow when they take on #21 St. Thomas University in a 9 inning affair.
