Baseball drops home matchup with St. Ambrose

Box Score WHEELING, Ill. - It was another tough outing for the TIU Baseball team, coming up just short of picking up their first win of the season, falling 4-2 to St. Ambrose University at Heritage Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Sam Willis put together a solid start on the mound for TIU, throwing a complete game, allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 5 in the loss.

SAU got on the board early and often on Tuesday, scoring the games opening 4 runs in the first 4 innings. Three sacrifice flies, and a Trojan errors set up SAU to take the early advantage.

The Trojans struggled at the plate early, and did not record their first hit until midway through the bottom of the 7th. TIU got on the board when Julius Torres scored on an SAU error, followed by a Brendan Lacey RBI groundout that made it a 4-2 game.

Despite having runners on the corners and one out in the bottom of the 9th the Trojans came up just short, failing to push a run across and eventually falling 4-2.

The Trojans will look to bounce back Friday when the IUSB Titans come to town for one 9 inning game scheduled for 3 PM.
