GREENVILLE, S.C. --- TIU senior outside hitter Brianna Torres has been named the National Christian College Athletic Association's (NCCAA) Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the national office on Monday afternoon.
Torres, a native of Chula Vista, California earns her second NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week honor of her career, after previously earning recognition back on February 15, 2021 during the COVID-19 shortened and postponed 2020 season. During the last week of play, Torres posted 42 total kills and 26 digs in Trinity's two CCAC Tournament matches, helping the Trojans reach the semifinal round.Â
Torres' 26 kills in the quarterfinal round set three new single-match records, including most kills in a four-set match, most kills in a four-set home match, and most kills in a four-set postseason match. In addition to earning honors from the NCCAA, the 5-7 attacker also was named to the CCAC's first team all-conference for the third time in her career on Monday.
Torres and the Trojans (19-14) return to action on Friday night as they take on Hannibal-LaGrange University (MO) in the semifinal round of the NCCAA North-Central Region Tournament in Elgin. First serve is scheduled for 7:00pm CT at the Linder Fitness Center, with the match being streamed LIVE on the Judson Sports Network.
