KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- Yesterday afternoon the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the release of their annual awards, recognizing the association's highest individual honors and achievements of NAIA student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. Among the list of honors, the NAIA announced their scholar team and scholar-athlete honorees for their academic achievements during the 2021-22 academic year.
NAIA Scholar-Athletes must be a junior or senior of academic standing with a 3.5 GPA having completed at least two full years of eligibility as a non-transfer student, or a one year as a transfer student. For this recognition, 27 student-athletes across six varsity programs at Trinity met the qualifications.
NAIA Scholar Teams must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and include every varsity athlete certified as eligible. The Trojans had three programsearn this recognition: women's soccer, women's volleyball and women's basketball.
The women's soccer team led the way with 10 honorees, a new program record for largest class of scholar-athletes and the third year in a row with six honorees or more. Next, the women's volleyball program honored six recipients, with men's soccer following with five and women's basketball with four recipients. Baseball and football both had a single recipient.
"We are incredibly proud of all of our NAIA Scholar-Athletes from the past year," said TIU Director of Athletics Luke Ward. "When you consider what's required of our student-athletes, practices, workouts, travel to game, opportunities to serve our community, class work - it takes an amazing amount of discipline. These students represent Trinity and our Athletic Department well."
