FINDLAY, Ohio -- Following their season-opening victory at Trinity Bible (N.D.) on Saturday, the Trojans were honored on both sides of the ball, as senior running back
Chris Elliott and junior linebacker
Riley Schussler were selected as the Mid-States Football Association's offensive and defensive Players of the Week.
Elliott finished with 93 yards and two touchdowns on just 14 carries in his senior season debut, averaging 6.6 yards per carry. The Miami, Fla. native also moved into a tie for second place on TIU's all-time rushing touchdowns list, pulling even with Mark Clinton (1998-01) with 30 career scores. Elliott is also now just 146 yards shy of TIU's all-time rushing record (Todd Johnson, 1990-94). The MSFA's Player of the Week honor is the fourth for Elliott in his TIU career.
Schusser picks up his second career player of the week nod after he led the Trojan defense in their shutout victory over the Lions, finishing with a team-high 11 tackles on the day. The MSFA's lone nomination for the
AFCA Allstate Good Works Team, Schussler was a key member of a TIU defense that held Trinity Bible to just 240 yards of total offense and three turnovers in the win.
Trinity International are off this upcoming weekend, before traveling to face the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors on Saturday, September 12. Kickoff from Milwaukee, Wisc. is set for 7:00 p.m.
