Cold shooting sinks Trojans in home matchup with Saints

Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill. - A slow start to both halves was too much for the Lady Trojans to overcome Saturday afternoon, as the TIU Women's Basketball team suffered an 80-49 home loss to Holy Cross College.

The Saints jumped out to a 20-10 lead in the first quarter as the Trojans struggled finding their groove shooting the ball. A pair of free throws from Kylee Daniels and back to back baskets from Sophia Anaya cut into the deficit, making it a 20-17 game at the end of the opening quarter.

After closing the gap in the first quarter the Saints would begin to pull away in the second frame. The Trojans would only register 10 points while the Saints used five made three pointers to extend the lead to 42-28 at the break.

The Saints continued firing offensively, shooting an even 50% from the field, while connecting on 39% of their shots from behind the arc. Much like the first half the Trojans struggled shooting the ball, shooting 28% from the field in the 3rd and 4th Quarter.

Bridgette Smith lead TIU offensively, racking up 17 points while grabbing 8 rebounds in the loss.

The Lady Trojans look to get back on track as they hit the road to take on Cincinnati Christian Saturday December 16th.
