Quick Notes

 • Trinity International softball opens the CCAC season this week, with a trip to Cardinal Stritch on Thursday, and the home-opening doubleheader against Calumet St. Joseph on Saturday.

 • The Trojans wrapped up their Florida swing with a 2-8 record at the PFX Spring Games. The Trojans secured wins over Grace (Ind.) on Mar. 7, and St. Francis (Ind.) on Mar. 9.
 • Freshman outfielder Payton Carli leads the team with a .350 batting average. Carli has started all 12 games this season, and has a team-high 14 base hits in 40 at-bats.
 • Sophomore pitcher Taylor Carli has posted a 2.74 ERA through seven appearances to lead the Trojan pitching staff. Calri helped lead TIU to a 5-1 win over St. Francis (Ind.) on Mar. 9 for her first win of the season.
 • Last season, the Trojans finished with an overall record of 9-28, recording the team's highest win total in nearly a decade. Trinity last earned double-digit victories in 2007 (18-23), and their most recent winning season game in 2006 (23-22).
 • Three freshman have the team's three highest averages at the plate. Behind Payton Carli's .350 average is third baseman Sara Grygus, who is hitting .344 on the season. Outfielder Tenley Bozzi has started the season with a .313 average, and currently holds the team's longest hitting strea of the season, going eight straight games with a base hit, from Feb. 22 to Mar. 8.
 • Grygus also leads the team with a .438 slugging percentage. The Mokena, Ill. native has a team-high three doubles on the year, including one in the Trojans' win over St. Francis on Mar. 9.
 • Junior catcher Alyssa Doomis has driven in a team-leading seven RBI on the year, and is hitting for a .294 average. Doomis' two-RBI single gave Trinity a 4-0 lead in the eventual 5-1 win over St. Francis on Mar. 9. Doomis currently holds the team's longest active reached-base streak at five straight games.
 • Freshman shortstop Jessica Vroman has hit leadoff for TIU in 11 of 12 games this season, and has posted an on-base percentage of .341. Vroman leads the team with three stolen bases on three attempts, and has scored a team-high seven runs on the year.
 • Freshman Grace Magnuson has made nine starts on the season, including four in the pitchers' circle and five at second base. The Gurnee, Ill. native earned the team's first win of the year, pitching six innings and allowing just one earned run in in a 9-6 win over Grace (Ind.) on Mar. 7.
 • Junior Emily Doomis has started all 12 games, split between first base and left field. Doomis is hitting .211 on the season, and went a combined 5-for-8 in back-to-back games against Grace (Ind.) and St. Joseph's (Ind.) on Mar. 7-8.
• The Trojans are hitting .258 as a team this season, the 12th-highest average in the CCAC. Calumet St. Joseph rank 13th in the league, at .253, while Cardinal Stritch is hitting .381, the 2nd-best offense in the CCAC.
• Trinity has posted a team ERA of 4.83, the highest in the CCAC. Calumet St. Joseph rank 11th in ERA, at 3.88. Cardinal Stritch's team ERA of 3.42 ranks 9th in the CCAC.

 

About Cardinal Stritch

 • The Wolves lead the series with TIU by a 17-6 margin since 2006. Cardinal Stritch had won ten straight over Trinity until the split doubleheader on Mar. 22 of last season, when the Trojans shut out Stritch in game two, 3-0.
 • Trinity has been shutout in one game of each doubleheader with Cardinal Stritch since 2013.
 • Cardinal Stritch are off to a 9-6 start this season, winning seven of their first eight to start the year. The Wolves are 2-5 since Mar. 9, and are coming off a split doubleheader at Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.).
 • Jen Martin leads the team with a .500 batting average and 18 total RBI. Martin ranks 3rd in the NAIA with 3.3 total bases per game, and is 9th nationally in slugging percentage, at .935.
 • Fatime Sino currently holds a 1.95 ERA through six appearances, with a 2-2 record. Lexi Kirkpatrick leads the pitching staff with a 4-2 record and has recordedd a 5.08 ERA on the season.

 

About Calumet St. Joseph

 • The Crimson Wave hold an 18-4 advantage in the series with Trinity, dating back to 2006. Calumet has won 17 consecutive games over the Trojans, including a pair of shutouts, 8-0 and 3-0, last season.
 • Trinity has scored more than one run against the Wave just once since 2013, and have been shut four times in the last five meetings.
 • Having posted winning seasons in five of the last six years, the Wave are off to a 5-16 start in 2017. Calumet has dropped five of their last seven games dating back to a tripleheader on Mar. 2.

 

Trojans in the Polls

 • TIU Softball was picked to finish 11th out of 13 in the CCAC preseason poll, released on Jan. 16.
 • The Trojans are have yet to earn a spot in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, dating back to the poll's debut in 2000.

 

TIU Softball History

• Since 2006, Trinity Softball has an all-time record of 76-339 (.183). The Trojans' last winning season came in 2006, when TIU finished 23-22.
• Trinity earned just one victory in three seasons from 2013-2015 before turning the program around last season. The Trojans had lost 100 consecutive games before defeating Mount Mary (Wisc.) on Apr. 4, 2015.
• Trinity's last appearance in the CCAC Tournament came in 2007, when the Trojans went 1-2, falling to eventual conference champ St. Xavier.
• The Trojans have made one appearance in the NCCAA National Championship, also in 2007. The Trojans upset the higher-seeded Emmanuel (Ga.) before falling in the quarterfinals. Trinity has never made an appearance in the NAIA Softball World Series.
