 • Trinity International softball steps out of conference play on Saturday, when they host a doubleheader with the Maranatha Baptist (Wisc.) Sabercats at Heritage Park in Wheeling.

 • The Trojans are coming off a split doubleheader with No. 16 St. Francis, earning the programs first victory over a nationally-ranked program in moret than a decade, with a 4-2 win in game one.
 • Freshman outfielder Payton Carli leads the team with a .345 batting average. Carli has started all 18 games this season, and has a team-high 19 base hits in 55 at-bats.
 • Sophomore pitcher Taylor Carli has posted a 4.79 ERA through 12 appearances to lead the Trojan pitching staff. Carli helped lead TIU to a 5-1 win over St. Francis (Ind.) on Mar. 9 for her first win of the season.
 • Last season, the Trojans finished with an overall record of 9-28, recording the team's highest win total in nearly a decade. Trinity last earned double-digit victories in 2007 (18-23), and their most recent winning season game in 2006 (23-22).
 • Two freshman have the team's two highest averages at the plate. Behind Payton Carli's .345 average is third baseman Sara Grygus, who is hitting .314 on the season. Grygus recorded two hits in each game of the home-opening doubleheader against Indiana-South Bend on Mar. 28.
 • Grygus also leads the team with a .404 slugging percentage. The Mokena, Ill. native has a team-high three doubles on the year, including one in the Trojans' win over St. Francis on Mar. 9.
 • Outfielder Tenley Bozzi has started the season with a .239 average, and currently holds the team's longest hitting streak of the season, going eight straight games with a base hit, from Feb. 22 to Mar. 8.
 • Junior catcher Alyssa Doomis has driven in a team-leading 12 RBI on the year, and is hitting for a .308 average. Doomis' two-out RBI single gave Trinity a 4-1 lead in the eventual 5-2 win over No. 16 St. Francis on Mar. 29. 
 • Freshman shortstop Jessica Vroman has hit leadoff for TIU in 17 of 18 games this season, and has posted an on-base percentage of .333. Vroman leads the team with five stolen bases on six attempts, and has scored eight runs on the year, second-most on the team.
 • Freshman Grace Magnuson has made 13 starts on the season, including seven in the pitchers' circle and six at second base. The Gurnee, Ill. native earned earned her second career win, allowing just one earned run and four hits against No. 16 St. Francis on Mar. 29.
 • Senior Jamie Stanton has started all 18 games, with 11 starts at second base. Stanton is hitting .204 on the season, and hit a two-out RBI double in the win over St. Francis on Mar. 29, marking the fourth straight game with a base hit.
• The Trojans are hitting .240 as a team this season, the 13th-highest average in the CCAC. Maranatha Baptist are hitting .339 through eight games this season.
• Trinity has posted a team ERA of 5.93, the highest in the CCAC. Maranatha Baptist has a 2.23 ERA, but are allowing a .324 batting average to opponents.

 

About Maranatha Baptist

 • Saturday marks the first meeting between Trinity International and Maranatha Baptist in program history.
 • The Sabercats are 2-6 on the season, and enter play this weekend on a four-game slide. MBU are coming off a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Alverno (Wisc.), falling 8-0 and 10-0.
• Freshman Harmony Bailey leads the team with a .481 batting average, ten RBI, and nine runs scored, playing in all eight games this season.
• Junior Brooke Campbell leads the pitching staff with a 4.25 ERA, throwing 28 innings over five appearances this year. Campbell holds a 2-2 record and has pitched four complete games on the season.

 

Trojans in the Polls

 • TIU Softball was picked to finish 11th out of 13 in the CCAC preseason poll, released on Jan. 16.
 • The Trojans are have yet to earn a spot in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, dating back to the poll's debut in 2000.


 

TIU Softball History

• Since 2006, Trinity Softball has an all-time record of 77-344 (.183). The Trojans' last winning season came in 2006, when TIU finished 23-22.
• Trinity earned just one victory in three seasons from 2013-2015 before turning the program around last season. The Trojans had lost 100 consecutive games before defeating Mount Mary (Wisc.) on Apr. 4, 2015.
• Trinity's last appearance in the CCAC Tournament came in 2007, when the Trojans went 1-2, falling to eventual conference champ St. Xavier.
• The Trojans have made one appearance in the NCCAA National Championship, also in 2007. The Trojans upset the higher-seeded Emmanuel (Ga.) before falling in the quarterfinals. Trinity has never made an appearance in the NAIA Softball World Series.

 • A busy week is on tap, with three doubleheaders in four days.
 • The Trojans will host Roosevelt on Wednesday, April 5, before making up the previously postponed matchup with Calumet St. Joseph on Thursday, April 6.
• TIU will then take on Trinity Christian next Saturday, April 8. All three doubleheaders are set to take place at Heritage Park in Wheeling, Ill.
