Trojan Football falls to Valparaiso

Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill - Trinity International struggled to move the ball offensively all afternoon as the Trojans (1-2) dropped their second game in as many weeks, losing 44-10 to Division I opponent Valparaiso University (1-2) on Saturday afternoon.

It was a quick start for Valpo, as the Crusaders drove the length of the field and after a 10 play drive found the endzone to open the scoring. Cody Boxrucker was a nightmare all afternoon long as the Sophomore rushed for only 17 yards, but ran for three touchdowns all inside the red-zone.

After the opening Crusader score the Trojans bounced back quickly. Junior Chris Wolcott got the start at Quarterback for TIU and he took advantage of the opportunity quickly. Wolcott opened the scoring for Trinity International with a beauty of a pass, connecting with Freshman Mikale Hilll from 30 yards out to tie the game at 7-7.

With a 14-7 lead heading into the second quarter, the Trojans defensively kept pace with the Crusaders, but from that point on Valpo began pulling away. The Crusaders tacked on two more touchdowns and a field goal in the second quarter, taking a commanding 24-7 lead.

Trinity International got a few points back right before the halftime break, as Freshman Kicker Carter Andrade drilled a 48-yard field goal to make it 24-10 at the half.

The second half saw much of the same with continued offensive struggles from TIU. The Trojans were unable to get into any sort of rhythm and didn't find the score sheet in the second half. The Crusaders added 20 more points throughout the two quarter, putting the game out of reach handing the Trojans their second loss of the season.

Defensively for TIU the Trojans Senior Mauricio Portillo and Junior Bradley Mowbray continued to lead each registering 8-plus tackles, including a tackle for loss a piece.

The Trojans will look to rebound next week when they travel to Upland Indiana to take on MSFA foe Taylor University at 6 pm.
