CLERMONT, Fla. - It was a tough day offensively for the Trojans in their opening two games of the season, as TIU would suffer a pair of defeats, losing 4-0 in 8Â innings to Mt. Vernon Nazarene, and 3-0 to Ave Maria University on Friday afternoon.
Jessica Vroman was the top performer for the Trojans in their season opener, going 2-3 on the afternoon wth a pair of singles.
Through the first 7 innings it was a pitching duel between the two sides as
Taylor Carli was stellar inside the circle, pitching 7 shutout innings to send the game into extras tied 0-0.
The Cougars came out of the gate quickly to open the 8th inning, driving in the first run of the game on a single and followed it with two more base hits including a two run homer to hand TIU a 4-0 loss.
In the second game of the day the Trojans again got good pitching inside the circle as
Grace Magnuson threw six solid innings, allowing 3 ER on 4 hits. Though the Trojans we're in the game all evening long thanks to the pitching of Magnuson, TIU struggled at the plate, registering just one hit in a 3-0 loss.
The Trojans will look for their first win of the season tomorrow when they take on Spring Arbor University, and Bethel College at 8, and 10:30 Am CST.Â
