GREENVILLE, S.C. --- TIU senior softball pitcher Hailey Baker has been named a third team All-American by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), as announced the the national office on Friday. It is the sixth overall NCCAA honor of Baker's career as a Trojan.
A native of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Baker was named to the NCCAA's All-North Central Region team for this past season, being named the region's top pitcher as voted on by the region's coaches. Hailey was also named to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference's (CCAC) second team, a two-time winner of the NCCAA's Pitcher of the Week award, and an NCCAA Scholar Athlete.Â
In 21 starts in the pitcher's circle, Baker led TIU pitchers with 12 wins this season, fourth most in the conference this year. Her 104 total strikeouts in 2021 are tied with teammate Alyssa Frey for the second most punchouts in a single season in program history and ranking top five in the CCAC. Her 3.07 earned run average ranked in the top ten in the league, while her 141.1 innings pitched are the second most in the conference. Baker started all four of Trinity's games at the CCAC Tournament last week, going 2-2.
TIU finished the 2021 season with a final record of 17-22, and an 8-13 mark against CCAC opponents in regular season conference play. Trinity won games against Cardinal Stritch and Judson in last week's CCAC Tournament before being eliminated from the postseason by Calumet St. Joseph in Crown Point.
