Trojans claim three spots on NCCAA All-Region team

GREENVILLE, S.C. --- The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has released their all-region selections for the North Central region. In the midst of a historic season for the Trojans, players from a variety of positions made the regions first-team bill including senior forward Trenton Garside, sophomore goalkeeper Armin Mahmutovic and senior defender Zachary Mawdsley.

Garside, a senior from Allen, Texas earns his first all-region honor following a terrific season leading the Trojans' offense. After burying a team-high 10 goals and earning 22 points, Garside snags a top ten spot in TIU history for single season for goals scored. He also had the highest number of game winning goals, grabbing four throughout the season to place second in the conference in the category and tie the TIU single season record while moving to second in career records. Garside totals 19 goals and nine assists throughout his career while playing 3,782 minutes. Earlier this week Garside was also named second-team all conference, his first honor in the category.

Mahmutovic, a sophomore from Chicago, Illinois dominated in the backfield for Trinity this season as he racked up 106 saves in 18 games for a save percentage of .791. He ranks first in the NCCAA for total saves and seventh in save percentage, while ranking second and third, respectively, in the same categories within the CCAC. The Trojan's historic season likely would not have happened without the efforts of Mahmutovic, as seven of their nine victories came courtesy of the keeper's clean sheets. Garnering seven shutouts this season, Mahmutovic matches the TIU top ten single season record as well as ranks third in the career category.

Mawdsley, a senior from Stoke on Trent, England, anchored the Trojan defense as captain and starting center back in all 18 contests this season while playing in almost 95% of the season's total minutes. As defender, he earned 11 points by scoring four goals, including the game winning goal at Calumet, and assisting three while simultaneously aiding the team in seven shutout wins. Throughout his career, Mawdsley has competed in over 5,000 minutes of play while scoring nine goals on 33 shots on goal.
