GREENVILLE, S.C. --- Trinity's standout point guard
Da'Naria Washington provided the finest effort of her stellar 2022-23 campaign, earning her NCCAA Player of the Week honors!
Washington was utterly unstoppable in the Trojans' 78-68 road triumph over Roosevelt University, delivering a triple-double to lead Trinity to their first conference victory of the season. While any triple-double marks a sufficient demonstration of both dominance and versatility, Washington exemplified those qualities to a particularly lofty degree on Saturday, stuffing the stat sheet in a Wilt Chamberlain-esque manner, racking up 15 points, 13 boards, 11 dimes, six steals, and five blocks while sitting out just one minute of the contest. Not only did Washington have a tremendous impact at both sides of the floor as evidenced by her impressive totals, but she also made the performance even more remarkable because of the efficiency she retained despite constantly functioning as the Trojans' primary ball-handler. She drained 46 percent of her shots from the field and managed to generate her 15 points on just 11 attempts. Her ball security was outstanding as well, as she forced more turnovers (6) than she committed (4) and her assists outnumbered her giveaways by nearly a three-to-one margin.
While Washington's opus is doubtless an occasion worthy of celebration, it didn't come out of the blue for the talented sophomore. Saturday's efforts may have marked season highs in rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals for Washington, but she has already showcased her ability to contribute across the board in a year that has seen her average 14.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists while playing 34.2 minutes per game for the Trojans. The Indianapolis native has taken a huge step forward after a solid freshman season and is on pace to eclipse nearly all of her marks from the previous year, most notably sporting just shy of a five-point-per-game increase in scoring from last year to this.
Washington will look to lead the Trojans to their second straight conference win as they return home to battle Cardinal Stritch University on Monday, November 21, at 5:30 p.m. at Van Dixhorn Arena.
