Box Score 4 LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — Trinity took a trip south for their spring break competitions to participate in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in South Carolina. Opening weekend of the tournament gave the Trojans four opportunities on the pitch, unfortunately falling short in each outing.
Game One: TIU 0, Madonna 27
The Crusaders opened scoring in the first inning after a triple earned two RBI. The Trojans looked to respond in the second as Alisyn Fullingim singled as lead off batter and Haley Slaymaker dropped a sac bunt to put Fullingim in scoring position, but the Madonna defense held out.
Adding to their lead, the Crusaders homered for another two RBI to take an 0-5 advantage entering the bottom of the third.
The Trojans played a clean game in the third inning, recording just one error but the Madonna offense lit up as they collected 17 runs.
In the fifth inning, Trinity was run-ruled and succumbed to defeat.
Game Two: TIU 1 Goldey-Beacom 7
The Trojans were given little time to recover from the first game before hitting the pitch again just a couple of hours later. A stroke of bad luck in the infield led to a 0-1 advantage for the Lightning in the first inning. Looking at two runners on base, the Trojans hoped to equalize but fell short leaving them on base.
Goldey-Beacom added another in the second and fourth innings, then two more in the sixth and seventh.
Trinity struggled to generate any offensive momentum throughout, recording two hits. Casey Cousino connected for her second hit of the season with a single to center field in the bottom of the fourth, while Alisyn Fullingim mirrored the same play in the seventh.
The Trojans also recorded three stolen bases, one each from Heather Anderson, Izabella Hernandez and Cousino.
Game Three: TIU 0, Malone 5
Day two of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic held two more games for the Trojans, with their first opponent being the Pioneers of Malone University. Trinity got the bats swinging early as Gigi Redman recorded her third hit of the season, followed by Heather Anderson with a double, advancing Redman to third base. Freshman leading hitter Alisyn Fullingim stepped up to try to put the Trojans ahead, but the Pioneer defense answered the bell with a ground out.
Malone jumped ahead with three runs after consecutive hits in the top of the third inning. Redman landed another hit but the Trojans failed to continue the momentum.
Anderson smashed a triple to right field to lead off for TIU in the bottom of the fourth inning before an outstanding double play from Malone.
A two run inning for the Pioneers in the seventh put the pressure on Trinity during their final at bat and the Trojans couldn't muster a response.
The Trojans scattered five hits across the field with Redman and Anderson each collecting two, and Alisyn Fullingim grabbing the fifth.
Game Four: TIU 5, Penn State Mont Alto 10
In their final game before a rest day, the Trojans faced the Penn State Mont Alto Nittany Lions. PSU leaped ahead early and the Trojans trailed 2-7 after three innings.
Trinity added two in the fourth inning after Jenna McIntyre hit a single to right field then Ashley Griffith took her base. Anderson and Thornton each recorded singles to progress the runners.
At the top of the sixth, the Trojans were behind 4-9 when freshman Gigi Redman connected for her first collegiate home run to score what would be Trinity's final run of the game.
Despite the result, TIU had their best offensive game of the season as they collected 12 hits and defensively played without error.
