Box Score 2 LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — After a day's rest the Trojans took the pitch again yesterday for another pair of games in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. By day's end, Trinity walked away with their first victory of the season in a convincing 12-1 result!
Game One: TIU 1, Penn State Schuylkill 8
Lead off batter Ashley Griffith opened the game with her first career triple. After a routine double play by the Lady Lions, the bases were emptied and Trinity was unable to build further offense.
Again in the second, Trinity's lead off batter connected with the pitch as Izabella Hernandez nabbed a single. She would be left on base though as the PSU defense held firm again.
The Nittany Lions scored two runs in the top of the third inning and another in the fifth before letting loose in the final inning.
Alisyn Fullingim recorded a double to start the seventh inning and generate momentum for the Trojans. Josie Nelson followed with a ground out, but advanced Fullingim to scoring position. A single from Waverly Swanstrom sent her all the way home.
Trinity collected seven hits in the game, with Heather Anderson and Swanstrom each going 2-3. Griffith, Hernandez, and Fullingim collected one apiece. The Trojans also stole three bases, while giving up just two errors.
Game Two: TIU 12, Penn State Fayette 1
The Trojan offense lit on fire yesterday afternoon as they recorded their first win of the still young season. Alisyn Fullingim scored TIU's first run of the game in the second inning after a fielder's choice got her on base. Josie Nelson and Waverly Swanstrom both stepped up to the plate with a double and single, respectively to send Fullingom across the plate.
Griffith recorded the lone hit of the third inning, a triple to center field, as the Lady Lions' defense played without error.
Trinity ran away with the game in the fourth inning, collecting six hits and scoring six runs. Taking the plate first for the Trojans was Hernandez who recorded a double to start the bats swinging. Nelson, Swanstrom then Jenna McIntyre collected consecutive hits and an RBI each. Alayla Thornton and Heather Anderson claimed the final two hits of the inning to put the Trojans at a 7-0 advantage to close the inning.
The Nittany Lions put one on the board in the fifth inning, matched by TIU after solid baserunning from Fullingim.
Full throttle in the final inning, the Trojans scored four more to seal their victory as they scattered four additional hits.
A true team effort, the Trojans offense and defense were in sync during yesterday's outing. Waverly Swanstrom went 4-4 with three RBIs. Josie Nelson collected two doubles and three RBIs while Heather Anderson recorded two hits and one RBI. Alisyn Fullingim continued a great freshman start with a single and a triple in the contest.
Freshman Jenna McIntyre threw a complete game for the Trojans, allowing just three hits and one run.
