Trojans drop opener to #14 Cougars

Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill. - Francesco De Felice netted his first goal of the season, but the Cougar attack was too much for the Trojans as TIU drops their opening game of the season 4-1 to the #14 ranked Spring Arbor Cougars on Saturday evening.

Goals were scored early and often in the Trojans first game of the 2017 campaign as the two teams would combine for three goals inside of the first 9 minutes of play. Spring Arbor would hold the majority of the possession in the early going, getting multiple scoring opportunities on net when just 58 seconds into the match Cougar Forward Morris Kamara would net the first of his three goals on the afternoon. Kamara would add a second goal just three minutes later after a Trojan defensive breakdown.

With the score 2-0 in favor of Spring Arbor, the Trojans were given life in the 9th minute of play as De Felice drove down the left wing toward goal, eventually being taken down in the penalty area giving the Trojans a chance to cut the lead in half. De Felice would convert on the Penalty Kick bringing the Trojans right back into the match.

The possession remained even throughout the game despite the fleury of goals to open the contest, that was until the Cougars were able to tack on two more goals in the final 20 minutes making it 4-1, putting the game out of reach.

The TIU Men's Soccer Team will be back in action next Tuesday as Lawerence Tech University comes to Deerfield for a 4:30 matchup on Schartner Field.
