Saturday, November 21 | 2:00 p.m.
2015 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round | BC Soccer Complex | Atchison, Kan.

Quick Notes
 • Trinity International will make their third consecutive trip to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship this weekend, when they match up with the 6th-ranked Benedictine (Kan.) Ravens. Kickoff from Atchison, Kan. for the right to be one of 16 programs advancing to Orange Beach, Ala. is set for Saturday, November 21 at 2:00 p.m.
 • Saturday's match will be streamed live online, at TIUTrojans.com. A single-day pass for the full Opening Round is available for $9.95, while a pass for the entire tournament is $29.99.
 • The Trojans are unbeaten in their last ten matches, their longest such streak this season. TIU has won their last seven contests, outscoring their opponents by a combined 30-5.
 • The Trinity offense ranks 31st in the NAIA, with 2.75 goals scored per game, while Benedictine has averaged 4.33 goals each game, 5th-best in the nation.
 • Defensively, the Ravens have allowed an average of 0.81 goals per match to their opponents, good for the 27th-best defense in the NAIA. The Trojans are tied for 40th, allowing 0.95 goals each game.
 • Trinity has now recorded 13 or more wins in the past four seasons, and three consecutive appearances in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship. They have claimed two CCAC Tournament titles in that time, as the No. 5 seed in 2013, and again as the No. 4 seed this season.

Last Time Out
 • The Trojans punched their ticket to the NAIA Tournament with their second CCAC Tournament championship in the past three seasons last Saturday, with a 1-0 victory on the road over #17 Olivet Nazarene.
 • Junior Marta Sobey clinched the title with her game-winning goal in the 75th minute. The goal was Sobey's third of the season, and second game-winner this year.
 • The win marked the second straight victory over Olivet Nazarene within two weeks, after the Trojans closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win over the Tigers at home. Previously, ONU had been unbeaten in the last 10 matches with Trinity, dating back to 2008.

NAIA Tournament History
 • Trinity International makes their sixth all-time appearance in the NAIA Tournament this weekend, and their third in the past three years.
 • The Trojans are still searching for their first-ever NAIA Tournament victory, currently holding an 0-6 mark in the tournament.
 • In 2013, then-sophomore Kathryn Baccash (Simonsen) scored the game-tying goal against Martin Methodist (Tenn.) in the 47th minute, but three scores from the 84th minute and later gave the Redhawks a 4-1 win.
 • Last season, a pressing attack from The Master's (Calif.) resulted in a pair of first-half goals, and an eventual 4-0 lead before the Trojans responded with a Morgan Elzinga goal in the 83rd minute.

In the Polls
 • The Trojans reappeared in the NAIA Coaches Poll this week, coming in at No. 19. Trinity had not received a single vote since the Preseason Poll, released on Aug. 18., but moved into the top 25 with their CCAC Tournament run.
 • Trinity started the season ranked No. 17 in the Preseason Poll, improving six spots from their No. 23 ranking in the final 2014 poll.
 • TIU's appearance in the preseason poll also marked the fourth straight season that the Trojans have been nationally ranked at some point during the year.
 • TIU has been ranked in the Preseason Poll eight times in program history, since the poll began in 1999. (2000-2002, 2007, 2012-15)
• Currently, the Trojans are ranked 8th in the NCCAA National Rankings, after not earning a vote three weeks ago.

Scouting the Opponents
 • The Ravens dominated the Heart of America Conference in 2015, winning the regular season and tournament titles. Benedictine had just one loss and throughout the regular season, in a 5-1 decision at home to MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) on Oct. 13.
 • Along with MidAmerica Nazarene, the only other program to get a point off the Ravens this year was then-No. 23 Missouri Valley, who battled Benedictine to a 2-2 draw on Sept. 19.
 • Forward Rosie McShane leads the Heart of America with 26 goals scored this season. Nationally, McShane ranks 5th in the NAIA.
 • Ashley Chandler has recorded the team's most game-winners, with seven (7th in NAIA). Chander is also the team leader in assists, with 11 this season.
 • Goalkeeper Ellen Loughman has posted a goals-against average of 0.81 this year, ranking 33rd in the NAIA.
 • Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between Trinity International and Benedictine. The Ravens are also the first opponent from the state of Kansas that TIU has faced since at least 2007.

Champions of Character
 • Trinity International earned the Karl Boeck Conference Champions of Character Award for the fifth consecutive year. Entering the NAIA Tournament, the Trojans have gone seven straight seasons without a single red card.
 • In 2014, TIU was charged with two yellow cards over 20 matches, for the lowest per-match average in the CCAC. Coming into their 20th match of the 2015 season, Trinity has picked up only one yellow card.

Player of the Week
 • Five times this year, Trojans have been selected as CCAC Offensive or Defensive Players of the Week.
 • On Nov. 10, forward Samantha Yasatan was selected as both CCAC conference and NCCAA national player of the week.
 • On Nov. 3, TIU earned their first sweep of the weekly conference award, as Samantha Yasatan and McKenzie Chappell were both selected.
 • Sophmore defender Michelle Ortiz has twice been named CCAC Defensive Player of the Week this year (Sept. 29; Oct. 27).
 • Yasatan now has won the CCAC Offensive Player of the Week honor six times during her career, but Tuesday marked the first time in 2015 that she earned the award.
 • Chappell was also named the NCCAA National Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, the first national honor for Trinity this season.

CoSIDA Honoree
 • Midfielder Gina Collesano became the second women's soccer player from Trinity to earn a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team last week.
 • A senior studying Biology/Pre-Med at TIU, Collesano was one of just three players from the CCAC to be selected.
 • Collesano is also a two-time CCAC All-Academic Team member, and last year was named an NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete.

All-CCAC Team
 • Five Trojans were selected as part of the 2015 All-CCAC Team, announced after the CCAC Tournament Final match last Saturday.
 • Senior forward Morgan Elzinga was the team's lone representative on the All-CCAC First Team, her second career first-team honor.
 • Samantha Yasatan finished her four-year TIU career with four All-CCAC Team awards; the Racine, Wisc. native was named a Second Team selection in 2012 and 2015, and earned First Team honors in 2013 and 2014. Last season, Yasatan was also named CCAC Player of the Year.
 • Senior midfielder Gina Collesano earned her first career All-CCAC Team award, picking up a spot on the Second Team.
 • Senior Kelsey Gill improved upon her All-CCAC Honorable Mention status in 2014, to earn a Second Team nod this year.
 • Sophomore Michelle Ortiz also earned her first career all-conference award, and was named to the All-CCAC Second Team.

Player Notes
 • After recording only three goals in the season's first ten matches, Samantha Yasatan has returned to form, scoring eight times in her last six appearances. The senior has 14 goals this season, good for 6th on the CCAC leaderboard.
 • Senior Morgan Elzinga is the team leader in shots and shots on goal at this point in the season. Elzinga is tied for 7th in the CCAC with 12 goals on the year.
 • Elzinga also is tied for 8th in the league with 29 total points, and 1.45 points per game.
 • Freshman Jillian Kolster leads the Trojans with nine assists, and is tied for 2nd among conference leaders.
 • Freshman McKenzie Chappell has started the last 17 matches for the Trojans in goal, and has a 0.96 goals against average, with 17 goals allowed. Chappell ranks 4th in the CCAC, and 45th nationally in the NAIA in goals against average, and is 8th in the league with a .757 save percentage.

Up Next
 • If the Trojans can claim an Opening Round victory over Benedictine on Saturday, they will advance to the 2015 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship, taking place in Orange Beach, Ala. from Nov. 30-Dec. 5.
 • Trinity would either face the No. 13 seed #15 Cambellsville (Ky.), or Ashford (Iowa) in their second round match.
