GREENVILLE, S.C. --- The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has released their all-region selections for the North Central region. Though the Trojans faced adversity throughout the entire season, three of their women's soccer players have been chosen for all-region honors.
Sarah Davis and
Zoe Villont were selected for first-team as well as
Kinsey Gomez for the second-team.
Davis, a senior from Sycamore, Illinois, earned first-team all-region selection after capturing all but 45 minutes in goal for the Trojans as they battled through a tough year. Over the course of 17 games, Davis registered 127 saves for an average of 7.47 per game which ranks her eighth in the NCCAA. After a stellar outing in September, Davis was named both CCAC and NCCCAA Defender of the Week. Davis holds a TIU top ten career record in goalie minutes played (4,232), goals allowed (88), saves (257), and shutouts (8).
Villont, a junior from Woodstock, Illinois, was named first-team all-region after being selected for second-team honors last season. As a defender, she started and played in every minute except six of the entire season. If blocked shots were to be kept as stats, she would lead the team as her selfless grit and determination stopped many shots from becoming dangerous. Still, her ability to contribute in the attack was noted as she tallied five shots with two on frame.
Gomez, a graduate student from Flora Vista, New Mexico, earned her first second-team all-region nod. Starting in all 17 games, Gomez was a key contributor to the Trojan defensive unit that allowed an average of 10 shots on goal per game. While competing in over 1,500 minutes, she notched eight shots with four on goal and provided one assist as she moved seamlessly into the attack for TIU when necessary.
