KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- The National Soccer Coaches of America (USC) has announced the recipients for their College Player Award of Distinction. Three members of the TIU women's soccer program earned this honor in forward Shayne Busick, midfielder Chloe Kostos, and goalkeeper Sarah Davis. These three individuals become the first players in program history to receive the distinction.
To be considered for this honor, players are nominated by coaches for exhibiting quality performance on the field, the highest ideals of team leadership, quality character attributed to sportsmanship and respect for their teammates, opponents, officials, and the game in general, as well as significant contributions to benefit their program and community.
Busick, who graduated from TIU this past spring, posted two goals and an assist in her final season with the Trojans. The forward, who is also a two-time All-Academic selection by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC), was also named a Scholar-Athlete by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) this past season.
Kostos, a rising senior who will play her final year for the blue and white this fall, was also named an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete in 2020. The midfielder also earned NAIA and CCAC academic honors in 2019.
Davis, who will begin her junior season in August, played in every game for the Trojans in 2020 with 58 saves and a 1.69 goals allowed average in her first year as a starter. This honor is her sophomore campaign, after being named an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete, CCAC Defensive Player of the Week (April 6), and NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week (April 5).
The Trojans will kickoff the 2021 season on Saturday, August 28 at Indiana Wesleyan University.
