BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- Following a tremendous performance that saw her deny literally everything thrown her way, Trojan goalkeeper
Sarah Davis has been named the NCCAA Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week and the CCAC Defensive Player of the Week!
With the Trojans desperately needing a solid showing as they sought to find their footing in the new campaign against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils in Saturday's home contest, the senior keeper had one of the finest performances of her career, willing the Trojans to their first result of the season with a 13-save clean sheet in the 0-0 draw. While the Trojan offense struggled to generate consistent chances, Davis seemed to have the answer for everything the Blue Devils booted her way, facing a total of 25 shots, over half of which were on frame, but keeping the opposition off the board. In addition to her prowess in turning aside would-be goal-scorers on Saturday, Davis also excelled in the finer points of goalkeeping, coming off her line decisively to deny numerous chances and hammering away several of Lawrence Tech's 10 corners.
The highlights of Davis' remarkable effort included a diving save to deny a scorching ball ticketed for just inside the near post and a leaping effort to push a screamer just up and over the bar. After opening her season with a solid 15 saves through two contests, Davis embraced her role as the last line of defense and nearly doubled that season total on Saturday afternoon, lifting the Trojans to a momentum-building draw and garnering multiple well-deserved awards for the outstanding individual contribution.
With a failsafe in place as long as the standout Davis is in goal, the Trojans will seek to build on Saturday's draw by claiming their first victory of the season against Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on September 7.
